TRAINING
OF PARENTS OF MENTALLY RETARDED CHILDREN
FOR THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THE TREATMENT
Working in the way of "a collective
as a doctor" in which the personnel, the mentally retarded persons and
their parents live together during their weekend meetings, 3-7 days, in a calm
and warm atmosphere, it was possible to find out a great number of
neuropsychiatric diseases, imitating mental retardation, while their
intelligence was normal. The importance of the early detection of the syndrome
of pseudoretardation is in the use of adequate therapy and of course far better
prognosis for a great number of patients.
Though this form of work, it is
possible to educate the parents of the mentally retarded persons, so that they
can easier recognize their children's symptoms and take part in their further
therapy.
The author's opinion is that the
adequate recognizing of these syndromes may reduce the number of wrong
diagnosed and categorized persons and make their prognosis better.
