Writing the preface for a scientific journal is quite a challenging task, requiring a level of authenticity so as not to publish repetitive content from previous editions, while maintaining a high quality of text that intrigues our dearest readers to enjoy our publication from cover to cover.
This year our publisher, The Faculty of Philosophy at Skopje, is celebrating its 90th anniversary. For this reason, this edition as well as any other represents the Faculty’s tendency toward improving our publishing services.
The writer of this letter has in the past two to three months faced a series of resignations from the Editorial Office’s crew on the basis of various grounds. To all who were involved in the four previously published editions and had to leave our team, I would like to use this opportunity to thank you for your unselfish contributions. Furthermore, it is likely that your resignation has for you been a great loss, namely because the Journal is constantly growing in publicity. Meanwhile, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Ratko Duev, M.Sc., Angelka Velkoska, and Katie Bachmeyer, people who instantly and without reservation filled the vacated positions and have achieved great success in completing this edition.
While in this difficult period, I accomplished the goal to strengthen the international recognition of our journal and index in five large databases: the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Scientific Commons, NEW JOUR, York University Libraries andNew Electronic Journals. These databases are powerful research sources and include a vast amount of scientific articles and other publications. At the moment, the journal has been indexed in 18 databases, making it more accessible to a larger amount of readers around the globe. It remains for us the task to work hard and gain the impact we have long been waiting for patiently.
For the remainder, I have the chance to introduce you to the interesting content of this new edition, and to some of the world’s most recognized authors who have decided to publish their work with us. In this issue, you will find topics on sexual evolution, namely, the behavior and sexual identification present among the people with autism. You will also be able to read more interesting facts about collective institutional treatment ofstuttering in Serbia. The section on speech therapy is enriched with national authors’ article entitled, “Comparative analysis of phonetic-articulating disorders in the function of differential diagnosis.” “The asphyxia and the developing achievements among highly-risk newborns” is the title of a piece from a group of domestic authors. The author Spasovski is currently working on the subject of mainstreaming in Macedonia called, “The assumptions of the inclusive education and the role of teachers and experts.” Our Italian colleagues are developing further the problems with de-institutionalization of psychiatric patients via psycho-social rehabilitation. The featured Slovakian authors present a very intriguing piece on DNA polymorphism present in adults diagnosed with Down syndrome. Aging in adults with intellectual interruption is the main area of study for the American scientist, Janicki. Along with these articles you will find the summary of a book and several resumes of defended master’s dissertations. You will also have the chance to read the latest news from our area of expertise and a full bibliography of the journal’s previously published issues from 2004 to 2009.
We patiently await your comments and suggestions which will encourage the improvement in the quality of our journal.
